Videos encoded at 900kbps cbr and vbr do not play smoothly on my vcd player. I have used tmpeg with vcd pal non standard setting.
However the same video on the same vcd encoded at standard settings plays perfectly.

some players don't like vbr if it's a really high or really low bitrate or sometimes not at all...

i have that problem too before, but you take a try at this.change the
mpeg-1 vcd(non-standard) to mpeg-1 system(VBR),the rate control mode
set 2-pass VBR(VBR)then go to setting set max pass to 2 pass and enable padding not lower then lower bitrate, change to 29.97fps.I hope this will help you.send me a message either you fail or pass.

is it ok to use 29.97 fps. i'm using pal and, also my source videos are 24fps.
Thanks anyway and i'll let u know the results when i burn my next test vcd.

In this case, with videos at 24fps, encode using NTSC(film) template, reduce the bitrate if need be and maybe enable 3:2 pulldown in tmpgenc, then you should get smooth playback. Encoding 24fps avis at 25fps (PAL) or 29.97fps (NTSC) will result in jerky playback.is it ok to use 29.97 fps. i'm using pal and, also my source videos are 24fps.
