  1. Hey Guys, I got a All in Wonder 7500, and have been playing with it for a few weeks. When it comes to capturing 352 x 240, it looks great with zero frame loss. Ive used several codecs, divx, mpeg4, etc. no problem.

However if I try to capture higher, like 480x480, or 720 x 480, I drop nearly every frame. It happenes no matter what codec I use, or program; Virtual Dub, Ulead Video studio, etc.

Is there some settings im missing, or does my PC need more power? Here are my specs:

    Amd Duron 1.3
    352 ram
    Win me
80 Gb hard drive, 5400 rpm, with dma enabled
ATI All in wonder 7500, with latest drivers as of august 1st I believe.

    Thanks for any help!!

  2. try unchecking overlay or preview under the video tab after you click on the capture avi.

  3. Thanks!! Ok I tried this in Virtual Dub. It got a little bit better.

    With 480x 480, I only dropped a few frames.

640x480, I lost about 30% of the frames

720x480, I lost about 60% of the frames, and my CPU usage was at 90%

Any other ideas, tips? Thanks for reading!

Use a codec that is more appropriate for capturing. mpeg4 and divx are both very costy for encoding. You might need to capture to PIC MJPEG or huffyuv first and then convert that to your desired output format.

  5. I have AIW Radeon on my P4 1600 NW with 512MB RDRam and it works fine - its possible to record with any codec but if I run another program at the same time like Internet or so it starts dropping frames -so - its very important that you follow this:

Use HD Defrag. as much as possible...
Dont run any other apps at the same time...not even internet
Shut down all viruskillers or any other progs that pop-up now and then..
Record to another HD than your WIN HD if possible....
Get the latest capture drivers from ATI support - there is a newer one than Aug1, now

I used to have a P3 800 256MB Ram and I was able to record in DVD quality MPEG2 with no frames dropped... I actually made a new log-on in windows with the only purpose to capture... with everything limited...

  6. I have a ATI 7500 AIW in a XP 1500+ system. I can capture Huffy AVI full frame and my processor works at 60-70%. I still loose frames (maybe 1 in 300 or 400). I think my dedicated capture harddrive (completely empty 40Gb - DMA enabled) can't sustain the writing rate. I have a second 40GB and a RAID card that I'll be installing eventually (what is spare time?). I'll let you know if the new config helps.

  7. There is a pretty good guide under CAPTURE/HOW TO ....ATI how to tune your comp. for ATI Capture.

Buckwheat: Do you have the same problem that if you do something at the same time you capture it starts dropping frames?.. on your machine it should be possible to capture MPEG2 higest quality without any frames dropping!!! I could do that with a P3 800!!!! I also found out that capturing MPEG1 for VCD is no good - its better to capture MPEG2 720x576 constant bitrate 8.00(or as high as possible without dropped frames) -then convert it to VCD with tmpgenc...

sometimes this isn't a real detectable frame loss, it's just a counter re-adjustment where the software re-syncs because of audio clock drift
the further you are from 44100 the more often you'll notice them
