  1. I'm looking for a player that will shuffle play from multiple folders on an mp3 disc. A multi-disc player would be even better. Any clues?

  2. So far the best player I've seen for mp3 playback is the Sanyo DWM-280 (Walmart $99). It supports long file names, but not ID3 tags. It does choke when you have sub-directories. It can play random mp3s from all directories, program up to 12 to play in a specific order, or play them by folder. I took mine back because it cannot play VCD or SVCD. It does support DVD-R and DVD-VCD / DVD-SVCD.

I also tried the DWM-380 (Walmart $120). Same limitations on VCD/SVCD. Also mp3 support is much worse. No random play and the menus suck.

I've also tried the Samsung S221. The mp3 menu was really lame. Even though the box said that it supported random mp3 playback I could not get it to work...

PS I would have posted reviews of these DVD players, but none of them exist in the database, and I have no idea how to add them...

If anyone else has any experiences with MP3 playback I would love to hear about it. I still looking for a good player...

hi! i haven't been able to find any info on this dvd player. i mean, i have the manual and everything but it doesn't say if it plays vcd or svcd or anything besides mp3s (and dvd ofcourse)! so far i've wasted 3 cds, i know that isn't much because they're a dime a dozen-- if not free! hehe but it's more of a time thing.
do you know if they play both? i tried burning 2 svcds... one on a fuji (japan) disk and another on philips (taiwan)... and 1 vcd on a fuji disk.. none of them were a success. but i am a newbie so it may just be me! i'm using nero, but on on one of the svcds i tried easy vcd.
i wish they had this machine listed in the comparisons section. i wonder why they don't.... oh well. please reply when you get a chance

  4. I already replied to your other message, but didn't see a question in so I didn't really answer anything....

Neither of the new Sanyos will play VCDs or SVCDs. They've apparently removed the capability intentionally. If your burn VCD or SVCD data onto a DVD (like the test disk on this site) it will work fine, but when you burn an actually (S)VCD it will not work no matter what.

I ended up with the Daewoo 5800 and it seems ok so far.
