  1. I'm trying to convert a bunch of movies with extensions .mpg, .mpeg, .avi, from 2 mb-700 mb in size to vcd and svcd using TMPGEnc. I have spent hours in the How to newbie and
How to convert pages with NO LUCK.
My different types of files listed above 15 f/ps to 50 f/ps. can somebody help me out.

  2. Pick one in particular and detail the problems you are having.

MPEG and MPG are the same thing, although either could be MPG-1 or MPG-2. The AVI is probably a DivX.

Since you have given no specific information, all I can suggest is that you are doing something wrong.

  3. Well lets see. I took a .avi file used TMPGEnc and converted to a SUPER
video cd/ntsc film, Easy cd creator platinum 5 gives me a window which
basically say "to make this file video cd compliant i need to use a mpeg encoder that supports video cd encoding" then there is a bunch fo file information: Video bitrat of 2519 kbits/sec, total vibrates of 32796 kbits/sec, framesize 480x480, system clock reference 2400 are not accetable. Every type of file .mpg, .avi I have converted with TMPGEnc has gave me this window in ECDC when try to add to burn

  4. If I try to open any of these files I have converted with TMPGEnc with virtualdub it gives me a "MPEG Import Filter: Pack Synchronization Error"

  5. If your new to this, try making VCDs insted of SVCDs. And use Nero to burn.

  6. the .avi file in menton before converting in TMPGEnc video format-352x240, 254 bits, 2004 frames, 15.000 frames/sec, 65kb/sec, ms-mpeg4 v3.

I do not know how to tell what the .mpg files Ive tried video formats were before converting.

  7. Since you used the SVCD template in TMPGEnc, you have to burn as an SVCD. Adaptec does not burn SVCD, only VCD. I switched to Nero for just this reason. I have burned many SVCDs using TMPGEnc and Nero with no problems.

I have noticed that few standalones will play these discs. Handing them out to family is pointless.

  8. Thanks TODD. What Nero program do I need or is there just one.
I boought a Audiovox Portable DVD player dv-1680. From what I
have read it should do both vcd and svcd.

  9. Nero Burning ROM 5.0 or above. I use 5.5. The last I checked they had 5.5.9 that also has DVD support.

  10. You need to make sure your frame size is 352x288, video bitrate is 1150, audio rate is 228 (your current bit/audio rates seem very high and dvd players won't accept a vcd frame size other than 352x288).
    Hope this helps.

  11. 352x288 is correct for PAL. For NTSC use 352x240. All of my VCDs are in the latter format and work great.

  12. Since original is VCD spec, or close, do NOT convert to SVCD, you can't polish a turd.

Encode as VCD and burn with Nero.

  13. Now you've got me confused. Teva wants to make an SVCD. So the encode is 480 x 480 at 2520 max bitrate (I always used the max for good quality and faster encode). That's what the TMPGEnc SVCD template will yield. Then burn as SVCD in Nero.

    Stop messing with my brain

  14. It will look like crap. Your original file is VCD resolution, resizing higher will look terrible.

Your source is also low framerate, will not yield great results.

You should re-encode to VCD spec.

  15. I didn't see anywhere what her original resolution was. Just 15-50 fps. Maybe it was higher resolution, and that is why she wanted SVCD.
