This is what happening... often when you purchase a 20GB hard drive you will not able to store up to 20GB of data on it, this is because the defination of "GB" from the media manufacturers is not the same as the "GB" in computer term. Media manufacturers define 1,000 as 1k, 1,000,000 as 1MB and 1,000,000,000 as 1GB, but your computer will define 1,024 as 1k, 1,048,576 as 1MB and 1,073,741,824 as 1GB. As you can see 4.7GB declare by the media manufacturers is actually equal to around 4.3GB when recognise by your computer (4,700,000,000 / 1,073,741,824 = 4.3772)

Nero, in the disk information mode, reads my dvd disks a having the following capacity,
4.489 and the cut off line along the bottom of the compilation screen, is just a hair to the left of 4500megs. Even if I can compile it, Nero wont burn it.

The problem with these "computer terms" is a lack of inconsistancy from program to program. Some programs, like NERO, bases everything on 1.024 kBytes. Hence, Nero will let you burn a DVD that is 4.589 GBytes (and the info bar on the bottom "red-lines" at this amount). Others base this number on 1.048576 MBytes, so the amount you'll be able to burn will be 4.48GBytes. Still others base it on 2^30, so 4.377GBytes will be available.

Confused? Join the crowd. The way that I have been using is to highlight all the files I want to put on disk, then right clicking and letting Windows give me the EXACT size - in bytes (ie, 4,685,490,377 bytes). I then compare this to 4,700,000,000 and if the former number is lower, I know that it will fit.
