  1. Bono once said “I would rather hear a terrible quality recording of a good song then a crystal clear, digitally enhanced quality recording of a bad one” or something to that affect. This is my whole point with DVDs and theater ticket prices. It has nothing to do with how much money you have or don’t have. I want to stop Hollywood from designing movies to be “totally cool” as far as there special audio/video effects and put nothing into the writing, directing, and acting! And it is working because people actually go out and buy their TVs, stereos and DVD players so that the can get the clearest and coolest simulation of the THX etc. theaters. And for what? So you can sit there and watch “Spiderman”?!?! (has to be one of the worst movies ever made!) Again I don’t care if you use 100 million dollars in cash as a foot stool, you should not support bad film making disguised inside high budget effects! If you like great special effects then spend your money on the good games that are coming out, like “Medal of Honor, Allied Assault” etc.!

P.S. No I don’t think Bono is the worlds best singer, or U2 the best band, I just like that quote.

  2. You obviously have no incline in your tiny warped mind as to why people use these forums do you?

Either that or you simply post for the pure frustration value?

We so need to grab the attention of the forum staff to add a "report this post to a moderator" button to the forums or better still to every one of this time wasters posts.

  3. Well I always knew it was just a matter of time before I was banned. Isn’t that true for all things in life? Lol

The reason I posted these here is because this forum gets the most readers and my topics, all be them controversial, are directly and indirectly related to everything being talked about on here. Now I have no care if you dislike my posts but it has never been my intention to disrespect the creators of this site www.vcdhelp.com I think it is a GREAT site! It has helped me tremendously, has tons of info, and is well laid out.

Plus my posts get a lot of views which only increase the “ratings” of the overall site. But banish me if you must. I will live on in the hearts and souls of my readers!

hey Lantry, you talk sh*t about EVERYTHING! you have said so many things were dumb, a waste of time or money, etc.

would you go out on a limb and give us an example of something that you like? a favorite movie? a band?

I'm not being sarcastic, I am just wondering because I liked some of the stuff you said sucked and I was curious.

what were the last couple of things you were excited to download? (seriously!)

  7. If you dont like the movie, dont buy the DVD then, simple! It's not like they are forcing you to buy it. Their are plenty of good movies out on DVD (i.e Hitchcock Collection, Kubrick Collection and many others). Sure there are also crap DVD's out such as Planet of the Apes(2001) but all you do is simply walk past and not buy them.

Also just because you dont like a movie doesnt mean that other people also dont like it. I personally disliked Spiderman but I am probably in the minority on that one. Everyone has different tastes and that is fine (i.e my Dad who is a huge action film fan whilst I am into more black(dark) comedy/thrillers/drama films but I dont criticise his tastes). Does it mean that if they like a movie you dont that they have been 'brainwashed' by 'the man' or 'the industry', no, just means they get something different out of a movie then you did.

It also seems your whole arguement isnt even with the DVD format, more with movies you dont like.

As Bono once said “I would rather hear a terrible quality recording of a good song then a crystal clear, digitally enhanced quality recording of a bad one” or something to that affect.
Well this goes back to my point of good movies also being released on DVD. I am sure if he could Bono would prefer to hear a crystal clear, digitally enhanced quality recording of a good song.

And by the way I dont mind your posts being controversial as long as you at least offer some variety. All your posts are the same, worded in a new way but the underlying message still is "I hate DVD's and the commercialisation of movies". I also hate somethings that commercialisation has brought us but if I were going to express my views I would do it in a single post not littering the whole board with messages. I also wouldnt criticise someone for having an opposing view. I would instead offer a rational, well thought out arguement that could be backed up by some form of evidence.

The DVD Format is great, They can release whole TV seasons on TV. (STAR TREK)

Personally, I don't see the need for superbitrate DVD's or HDDVD. I have a TV with Colorstream IN (Y PR PB) and I don't notice any glitches or blocking.

thinking about it, spiderman was a bit of a disappointment. it seemed like it wanted to take the best bits from both superman and batman and make the ultimate superhero movie but it fell flat on it's face. elfman's soundtrack was 10th rate compared to his excellent batman score. and the times square scene was an pitiful attempt to top superman's classic helicopter scene. i would take even superman 2 and batman returns over spiderman- it's that bad.
and lantry- i like bladerunner too. great soundtrack, atmosphere and i love the battle at the end. the replicant's final speech was one of the best movie moments ever. i love it.

  10. Boss, guess what they are still letting me reply on this thread!! That is a feat in itself. On Spiderman, I know anything comic book orientated is popular, but this was really a bad film. The Hollywood cheese was so thick it was hard for me to keep from vomiting for the first 1:45 mins. Especially the scenes of that old guy getting killed etc. That is if I am even remembering it right, this movie was anything but memorable… And that chick, nice tits but that was it!! I mean she couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag! The dude that played Spiderman, “what’s his name” was great in “The Ice Storm” ok in “Sider House Rules” if you like that kind of feel good movie crap (when he comes in the room at the end and says "goodnight you kings of new england, you masters of what ever the f*ck" or what ever I puked all over myself) keeping in mind i live in New Englend. And I loved the skit on SNL where they had to hold a mirror in front of his mouth to see if he was still alive mid sentence!

I should tell you despite this critique I am a HUGH sci-fi fan. I thought X-men was pretty good. And can’t wait for the new Star Trek movie and will pay to go see it in the theater! I don’t expect it to be something great, as none of them have been before (First Contact was the best so far) but by no means a great movie. But I admit I do enjoy movies like those all be them poorly made and acted. I guess you have to put movies in there perspective, and even with that said I still think “Spiderman” was one of the worst movies ever! I mean all anyone needed to see from it was the Trailer where they show him swinging through NYC. That was cool!! But was only about a 1 min clip out of 2 hours of embarrassing torture!

And oh yeah i must say i really liked "The Matrix" and actually saw it twice in the theater. But that was on the first weekend before all the hipe and bandwagon etc. Actually when i first went to see it I didnt know a thing about it, i didnt even really know if was a sci-fi. Most movies that are good are best if you know little about them before hand... Unfortunately I am sure the sequels of “The Matrix” will be along the lines of “Die Harder” and “Die really freakin’ hard” and will make me sad to live in the same country as the film makers…

Oh and P.S. - and this will be open season on me after all i have written... I love "TRON"!!! LOL I own the DVD! LOL and yes Al Gore was quoted as saying it was his favorite moive!! LOLOL Let the replys fly!

on the subject of star trek films what did you think was the best one? i don't watch the tv shows but i like the films. for me it would have to be the fifth one where he(kirk) fights god.it's great just because everyone else hates it! oh, i likes the one with the whale too. your new picture is better than the last one(what was that?) on the subject of kubrick films what about full metal jacket? probably my second favourite war movie after apocalypse now.

The best Star Trek film I've seen is Star Trek II: "Wrath of Khan", this one is excellent and no other Star Trek film matched it. Anyway, all the Star Trek movies are pretty good and better than the TV series.
