How old is your burner? I was getting the same error with an older burner that I think was dying. There is a laser calibration area on each disc, and my old burner was using too much of this area to do the calibration. Once it was full, I couldn't use the disc any more (except maybe with a burning prog that didn't to the calibration first). When I installed a new burner the problem went away immediatly.

Hmm...I can't imagine anything that new would be going bad so soon. Has the drive been reading discs ok?

My only other thought would be to try different media. Wish I could be more help

  6. This is a media problem. Those are excuse my term here "cheap shit CDRs". Dont buy them. I use only good brands, TDK, Verbatim. You pay a little bit more but they are awesome quality and they NEVER have failed a single time in all my around 300 discs I have made. I used PNY and they suck as well, they gave me those "Power Calibration Area Error" errors. I to thought my burner went bad, until I realized that the media was cheap and no good. Stay away in general of the too good to be true brands like K Hypermedia. 100 for 20.00 isnt such a good deal when most fail in burning and the rest become unreadably after a short period of time.

  8. How good are Imation CDRs?
Do people have a lot of problems with them?

Can cheap CDRs really become unreadable after a short period of time?

  9. i don't think it has sumtin to do with the cd's. I get the same error if my comp/cd-drive is too hot. (sumtimes when a CD comes out it's too freeken hot to touch it). when that happenes, i always get those messages...

  10. Power Calibration Error:
had this problem as well. Same message over and over again at the same moment in the burning process: still working at 2% read, error at 3%: the moment when it wants to fill the buffer.

Only remedy (after an intensive defragmentation) was to burn at the lowest speed possible).

I think this error is related to the type of CDs you use (see above as well). I had massive problems with one Imation spindle (almost all of them faulty, my garden fence has been extensively redecorated (had enough coasters already), but another Imation spindle posed no problems.

I still switched to other brands though, havent had any problems with either Mmore or Maxell (a mate swears by Philips)
