I am in the US and I bought a UK DVD not even thinking about encoding and such. Unfortunately there is not a US version of this DVD either.

Anyway, I have a Toshiba SD-2200 DVD player and the error I am getting is "Not NTSC". My question is: is there a hack for this? All it says on the back of the DVD with regards to color is: "Colour Code: Colour"
It also says "Region Coding: All Regions", so I get the feeling that it would play if it weren't for the color problem.

    Any ideas? Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    -Brandon

  2. Colour is the British way of spelling "color", which America used to spell it that way until about the late 19th century when Webster's Dictionary decieded to drop the U.

When they are talking about Colour Mode, I would guess it would either be colour or black & white.

Some players do not play all region discs, but in your case, your player seems not to be able to play PAL DVDs.

I'm aware of the spelling difference..very much akin to the theatre/theater thing.

I was just curious since there wasn't any other mention of color mode along withthe other specs. Eh well...I had a feeling that it was a PAL disc. I guess the big question now is what to do to be able to watch it...esp since I can't just send it back and ask for a Region1/USA version since one doen't exist.

  4. If your player supports VCD/SVCD, you can covert to one of those formats. Using TMPGEnc, so you could do the NTSC conversion.

  5. Since you purchased your DVD player from UK, it will be PAL. You could buy a PAL/NTSC converter from a few shops in the US. From Yahoo or Google search on the keywords - PAL/SECAM converters. If you live near Chicago, you could buy such a device at MiniMax Electronics on Michigan Ave. They have mail-order department as well. Another shop could be "World Gift Center". However, please check up whether this is indeed going to "fix" your situation - for instance ask whether the unit will allow you to play US DVDs (NTSC) on US TV (NTSC).

His DVD is from the UK and his player can not play PAL DVDs. So this will not work in any which way.
