I'm in the process of making a disk image with Toast Titanium that I was then going to copy to a DVD-R. I just noticed that Toast is calling the source DVD a 7.2GB DVD-ROM. My DVD-R is only 4.7GB, and I don't seem to find references to 7.2GB DVD-Rs anywhere. Can anyone tell me if they exist or am I stuck ripping and encoding to a smaller format?
Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Anyone know if they are on the horizon, or is this just too large for the DVD-R format?

Hey man, I'm pretty sure someone makes 9.4 gig DVD-R's, or they will soon, maybe later. not really sure. but lately I've been seeing a lot of DVD-RAMs with specs like 'burn to 4.7/9.4. oh well
-
simple problem...
4,7 Gig is max per layer...commercial DVD can have 2 layers...DVD-r etc . cant. The burner can't burn them if they would excist.
One possible solution is a 2 sided DVD...you have to turn it around.
DVD's successor is on the shelve for 5 to 8 years from now...and requires total new hardware...maybe dual layered burners will come...who knows...question is...is it worth buying a new burner and more expensive media... reading such a disc will take more effort...modern media have enough problems getting plays on warious systems.
just use 2 disc... -
How can you burn a large dvd to two disks and still keep everything? Can this be done?

New version of IFO edit supports splitting DVD's in two. Problem here is that the second layer never begins on the beginning of a chapter, If you want that you will have to do some more work.
Anyway with IFO edit you should get somewhere...try a guide on that proggie

I appreciate the quick reply but what does IFO stand for and is it mac software? Thanks 8)
-
sorry ... forgot about the mac thingy..
No IFOEDIT is windows software and a .IFO file is on your dvd, it's like a index to the .VOB it tells the player where to find what. (simplified explanation) By changing the .IFO and remuxing the VOB you can leave things out, like languages and subtitles.
The result will be the same, but smaller.
I'm not sure if there is a MAC proggie to do that, but you could always try the win emulator..the procedures don't take up too many cpy time, so it shouldn't be a problem. Try the MAC DVD ripping guide on this page to see what software is available for the mac.

Check out pubperfect.com/dvd for the new 9.4GB General Purpose DVD-R Media (Double-sided, 4.7GB per side) at $7.95 each.
If you have the latest Publishing Perfection catalog, they are on page 9.
I have no tried these yet, so I can't offer an opinion.
