I am new to this so please forgive me...

My PS2 will not play DVD+RWs according to the compatibility list on this site. Is there a way to finalize it or, in a sense, transform it into a DVD+R so that it will. My burner is external and has this tendency to shut down mid-burn, so I thought buying DVD+RWs would be the solution, but not according to the PS2. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    MJ

    Hi,

Back when CD drives were only 1x-2x, CDR (writable) was invented, these early CD drives wouldn't read CDRs so manufactures changed their then new models (around 4x?). Along came CDRW (rewritable) and these drives wouldn't read them so manufactures changed again (after 8x?) and all CD drives now read CD, CDR, and CDRW.

I suspect the same thing is happening with DVD. Plus there is DVD-R and DVD-RW (dash R) as well as the newer DVD+R and DVD+RW (plus R). "dash" and "plus" are not compatible for burning and it seems that different (older?) readers support different combinations of them.

I'd solve the burning problem and then try DVD+R.

It is probably possible to turn your burner in to an internal drive (don't say it! ) just by removing the drive from its external case; at least it was possible with every external CD burner I disassembled.
