Ok, my original message was moved here. So I will play by the rules and just work here. And let me just say this will be good!! I had a reply before from the guy that has an image of Orson Wells and had not even heard of "The 3rd Man"!! Plus all the people that are willing to line up to give Hollywood money for really bad movies ("Fast & Furious", "The Perfect Storm", "Lord of the Rings"(ok I know this will piss some people off but come on a bunch of long haireds running around in the forests with swords?? where were Lorenzo Lamas and Arnold Schwarzenegger in this piece of crap?!?) and MANY and I mean MANY more!)! Not to mention pay for DVDs of these really bad movies instead of just downloading them.
"Godfather II" is the best movie I have EVER seen! That is saying a lot because I love good movies. Like most Kubrick films, and well I could list all the good movies I like but I won’t. Anyway I know "Godfather III" is 12 years old now but what the hell happened??? My god did someone let Ron Howard direct it?!?!? What happened to Francis Ford Coppola?? From the opening scene you could tell it was a joke. "Michael Corleone" was so serious, so cold, so ruthless in the first two Godfathers... What the hell happened? In the third he was laughing, joking, giggling, and dancing all in the first 15 mins!!! This is not the same character at all!! But given the responses to my earlier posts I assume Godfather III must be the most liked of the 3 by all you backwards Hollywood supports!! Maybe they can make Godfather IV staring Ben (I have been ass licked) Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow!!! I bet you all would run out and buy that DVD and not settle for the DivX rip for that one too!!
Back me up Boss!
Lantry

well i have to agree with most of what you said. godfather part II is one of the best films ever made without a doubt. what really annoys me are those people who put the godfather on their top 10 lists and ignore the sequel just because it has part II at the end of the title. dont get me wrong the godfather was a great film but the sequel is just much more layered and broader in scope. who can forget the bit towards the end, where coppola uses the fade to get de niro's and picino's face on screen at the same time even though they don't share a scene together. a true masterpiece. as for the godfather part III yeah it was crap. coppola himself said he only did it to boast his flagging career. who knows maybe ron howard "ghost directed" it!
as for the other films you mentioned both the fast and the furious and the perfect storm are crap. lord of the rings is good, but too long and over rated.
ben afflkeck is indeed a prat, and should be banned from appearing in films. he should be kept in a secure unit for his protection as well as ours!
finally, as far as gwyneth paltrow is concerned, she's a total babe!!!!!... but even she can not make up terrible movies like "bounce"(with our friend mr. affleck) and "shakespeare in love"(also with mr affleck, how many crap films is it possible for 1 man to appear in?). maybe she was drunk when she signed up for those movies or something.
oh, lantry have you ever seen "chinatown"? i caught the end of it last night and remembered how good it was. the story, the ending the amazing score... pure heaven. this is what film making should really be about, not how much you can make on your opening weekend at the box office.

Lantry, Lantry, Lantry....
Still the newbie you were yesterday. Why is this in the Newbie Conversion section, that word is CONVERSION, for CONVERTING movies.. not CONVERSATION.. This is an OFFTOPIC discussion.
Godfather part II yeah its a damn decent movie, do you own the DVD of that or did you download the shitty DivX?
I bet you think Im this big Hollywood supporting movie buff that sees any piece of over advertised garbage JUST BECAUSE I goto the CINEMA, and prefer to watch a movie in quality rather than in DivX.. Im afraid not. My favourite Director of all time is the man himself, Alfred Hitchcock, seen almost all of his movies, his work is pure genius. Give me Rear Window or Rope or Saboteur over Godfather part 2 ANYDAY. David Lynch is cool too. I like Quentin Tarintino movies also and Kubrick has done some very nice work too. All are directors that think outside of the box.
Just because I go outside to the movies sometimes with FRIENDS Lantry, and believe that DVD is the best format to have a copy of a movie.. (who can say those points are wrong?) doesnt mean I dont know the difference between Hollywood garbage and classic films..
I work in a video shop, I have been watching movies since I was 6, I am studying to become a film director... I may only be 17, but dont think I am some commercialised sheep that follows our mainstream shepherd.

I don't see in what way this thread is at all related to "newbie conversion".
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

here we go again. cybermage26, are you saying that unless you own a dvd player you can't be a movie buff? we're not all millionaires you know. i own over a 100 dvd's, many of which i already have on vhs. i have the vhs godfather boxset and the dvd boxset. yet i still can't afford to buy all the dvd's i still want. but who cares? there is nothing wrong with watching films on vcd and vhs. you can still enjoy the movies.
and as for saying rope is better than godfather II you're joking right? they would kick you out of film school (and rightly so) for such an opinon!
i suppose you prefer crap like saving private ryan to apocalypse now too!
-
Saving Private Ryan and Apocalypse Now (especially the redux) were good. Not sure how I would rate them on the scales in comparison to Godfather II... although at the time while I was watching Godfather 2 I was not in the mood for that kind of film, which could affect the way my opinion of it is now.. I may give it a rewatch.
here we go again. cybermage26, are you saying that unless you own a dvd player you can't be a movie buff? we're not all millionaires you know.
I said I believe DVD is the best format to own a movie in, where the hell did you get the impression that you have to own DVD player to be a movie buff? It IS true that DVD is the best format to own, DVD quality of video and audio rivals that of VHS and VCD..
You own a DVD player.. and a VCR... you really like the movie "movie movie" .. it is available to buy on VHS, or on DVD. The DVD has better sound, video, extra features, theatrical trailer, directories commentary, and behind the scenes... what do you buy?
-
fair point, but some dvd's can be quite expensive. i can't afford to get them all so i have to stick with vcd or vhs for them. if i really like the film i'll buy the dvd or back it up. like i did with "batman" had the vhs already but wanted the dvd picture and 5.1 sound. if they released a special edition i might have bought it. (warner were probably too busy doing a ben affleck boxset!). but the bare bones edition is fine(and under 4.7 gb!). so i backed it up.

Ben Affleck isnt ALL that bad hehe. I mean havent you guys seen Pearl Harbour, that stuff was awesome.. .... .... .... not lol..
Dogma was ok though hehe. Havent seen Changing Lanes or Sum Of All Fears.
What are you guys favourite actors? At the moment my favourite actor is Clint Eastwood hehe, Im going through this big phase of him, its like some weird fetish, well not that bad. But Ive been watching all the old westerns and dirty harry and stuff. Some ok movies, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was alot of fun..
I got others.. but cant be fuc........ yeah.
-
....er ok. clint eastwood is a great actor. the good the bad and the ugly has to be one of the best westerns ever made. as for affleck, yeah dogma was good. a shame about the rest of his stuff!
what do you think about great actors making crap movies?
frist robert de niro now al picino. why they waste their talent in such crappy movies is beyond me. rocky and bullwinkle, meet the parents.. that "simone" thing.... they are films ben affleck would appear in!!!
-
The original Godfather book by Mario Puzo covered Godfather Parts 1 & 2. Godfather 3 didn't have the luxury of this and that's were it falls down. Screenwriters were forced to use their pitiful imaginations to come up with a plot. Plus the fact that Coppola hasn't made a decent movie since the 70's. The godfathers were great films, but "best film ever"? Not by a long shot!
-
I have to make this reply quick; I will come back and blow it out further later. Yes Chinatown is GREAT! And guess what, I actually own that DVD..LOL! Not that I would buy it or any other movie now on DVD. Pearl Harbor was a big piece of crap! Over hyped, over advertised, bad acting, writing, and the only thing that attracts people like you to it (I hope) are the high budget special effects. Once again this just shows how movies now are being made and judged by how “totally sweet man” the special effects are and how hard they make your subs on your neato 5.1 audio system thump! Not appreciated by what counts, writing, acting, and directing!
Boss have you scene “In the Company of Men”? It is in my top 10 list and was done on a budget of only $10k!!!! (And no even though the title may make it sound like so it has nothing to do with homosexuality)See my profile for my neato cool PC config specs (I think i might have one of the most "bad ass" setups on here!!)
