I just purchased TMPGEnc 2.57.
To me, it's no better than version 2.53 that I've been using for a while now. Does anyone else think this was a waste of money?
I guess I had to try, or I would've never known![]()

i agree but i also know that most programs' upgrades are only to fix bugs or glitches.so unless you've had problems before you wont notice anything.
3 things to look for in a upgrade
1- whole # changes like TMPGEnc 3.0 or nero 6.0, etc.
2- they will boldly advertise inportant new changes like "faster", "xp compatible" or "new user friendly interface"
3- you are currently having "bugs or glitches"Where I walk, I walk alone. Where I fight, I fight alone. -
Good points!
I just feel so had right now.
TMPGEnc makes me feel like I need a cold shower. -
You actually paid for TMPGEnc (software)??
Havnt you head of Grokster, or Kazza, or IRC, or.... bla bla bla....?
If you are a company that is cool. But if you are an individual, shame on you!!See my profile for my neato cool PC config specs (I think i might have one of the most "bad ass" setups on here!!) -
Some people arent poor and support companies that provide good programs.
If you put hard effort and made a good quality product would you want people to pirate it? Probably not.. -
nope. too expensive considering you can get most of it for free anyway

You obviously dont get it. Paying for or not paying for software has nothing to do with one's personal finances. It sets a precedent for the way software is made and sold… you tool!See my profile for my neato cool PC config specs (I think i might have one of the most "bad ass" setups on here!!) -
Tmpgenc is probably the most complete encoding package available when considering all of the tools that come with it.
The reason for the charge however is mainly for the MPEG2 unlimited encoding. Demo versions also only have the "Old Method" 2 pass VBR option.
Yes you can use the demos or as some folks have inclined "download unofficially unrestricted" versions but in the end you will only be party to the software writers going bust.
Even though I have personally moved across to CCE for video encoding I still purchased Tmpgenc a few months back simply for the quality tools I use on a regular basis. $48 is neither here nor there, if you use it regularly you should pay. It's your way of making sure it's still updated and able to provide new and better tools in the future. -
Lantry,
Idon't mind for things once in a while. Yes I had the free version 2.53, but I wanted to see what was new, and now I can at least say I have unlimited mpeg2 encoding and a new 2pass VBR.
If it weren't for me and a few other paying people every once in a while, nobody would have TMPGEnc! -
I intended to purchase 2.57 last week. However, I am not fond of buying software without getting something physical, like a CD and manual. I waited for Nero to arrive in stores before I bought it for the same reason. Also, I'm leary of giving my CC# to an overseas company that I could never possibly pursue.
Anyway, I had finally convinced myself to get over my biases, so I downloaded the trial version to give the "new" 2-pass encode a try. But I got an "internal error" from that version, that previous versions didn't give me.
This is the first time I've ever seen such an error with TMPGEnc, and I've been using many versions, back from the 12a days, for a couple of years now. And since I switched back to an older version with the exact same configuration, I haven't seen the problem. Has anyone else seen this?
Just as importantly, has anyone who has purchased this seen any funny business on their CC bill?
