Playstation 2 slipup? change regions?

heyhey, i seem to have stumbled across a ?region selection? menu adjustment. i found it while trying to change the parental settings, under the "custom setup" besides listing parental level and pause mode, there is a region selector. it doesnt list anything about it in manual and i dont have any dvds that are out of my region (1) to test it. i also think i got one of the first shippings of ps2s (its model # SCPH-3001 it that means anything). if there is anyone out there who has the same menu and can test it or can set me straight, it whould be very much welcomed.

hey did'nt you write about this already? you can see if this region selection really works by selecting a region different to your own, and then seeing if the the ps2 will still play your dvd's. if it does, than this region selection does'nt work but if it says can't play this disc due to region restrictions or some crap like that, than it does work. try it and tell us how you get on, because i can't find this custom menu you're talking about.

I know what menu you are referring to. Play a movie and hit select and go to custom setup/settings and it will say region with a whole pile of countries but not necessarily Region Codings. I still haven't figured out what that menu does. I only know that my ps2 will allow region bypasses and it will allow me to view Region 1 and Region 2. That's all I really need for now.

Incase you are wondering, I have the first wave of PS2s that were recalled in japan due to this region bypass loophole. (SCPH-10000) DVD Driver 1.00

you load the DVD while holding down a button on the controller (forget which, maybe L3 or R3 or both) and it will play any region also. for that model of PS2 that is.

I don't use the ps2 to view movies anymore becuase that after I watch 4 movies, the dvd driver will corrupt my entire memory card. So the Apex AD-3201 is used for watching all my region 1,2,3 DVDs.
