  1. Hi all,
I have a Sony DVP S335 DVD player and have been trying
different cd's for video cd and music cd.
Reading elsewhere, I believe Vivastar cd-r 80 minute work.
I have not tried these myself, but I have found a UK
    outlook for these cd's:
    http://www.vmsystems.co.uk
    telephone - 01274 403 040
However, they only sell 100 cd's on a spindle for £24.99.
I was wondering if anyone had tried Vivastar cdr's to hold music.
My Sony DVD player WILL play burnt music cds but only on
CD-RW (I use Memorex 74 minute - which however DO NOT play on
    other cd players !)
If Vivastar cd-r can play music cds and video cd I will not
mind buying 100 on a spindal.
Note, the Memorex CD-RW play video cd's ok.
    Regards, Steve Ashley

    Vivastar cd-r 80 AAGGGGHHHHH

Sorry, those are rubbish, they were in Argos and I bought some, but they stop working after a few weeks.

Used Maxell from Morrison (Buy 10 get 10 free) £6.99 - 20 never looked back, work with a lot of other players also.

  4. Hi both,
I've looked at the compability list for the Sony 315 and it appears cdr is more compatible than with my model. In hindsight, I should have done a bit more research and picked a DVD player than could recognise more formats and perhaps be multi-region.
I spotted the Vivastar cdr in Argos too - but I'll keep a look out for the Maxell cdr.
    Thanks, regards, Steve Ashley

  5. Hi KingJohn,
I've tried a Maxell cd-r 80xl with some audio on it.
I'm using Roxio CD burner software and finalized the cd after burning.
The Maxell played ok on a domestic cd player, but in my Sony DVD player it is unrecognised.
Did you get the Maxell to work with audio on it in your DVD player, and if so, what cd burner software / procedure did you use ?
    Thanks in advance,
    regards, Steve Ashley.

Hi you know I have made thousands of audio CD's for the HI FI, but have never played any of the DVD player so I just dug out one I had made on a Maxell, and yes it worked just fine, it came up with "CD" on the display even

I don't think it matters what software you use, I have used Easy CD Creator many times in the past, and just tried another I made years ago, and that worked just fine. I started using Nero when I first got this new writer, as at the time ECD started to have problems, so have just tested a new CD, and that works fine. I also tested one that was made on another machine and on a different burner, and that works fine

So it does look like your 315 does not play those, does it play commercial disks OK ?

When I make the disks, its usually direct from MP3, I never convert them, but if there is a faulty MP3 it can cause the programs to sit there forever more, Roxio will error, so its best to make an image first, then if it errors you can see which one to fix.

I use www.goldwave.com to fix any problems. I also have the MP3 pug-ins from the site.

As for procedure, as long as you close the disk, then it should work, but there is one thing, when I first got the writer although it came with Nero, I wanted to continue to use Easy CD Creator, but any disk it made was blank so I switched to Nero, as new fixes came out I guess the problem went away, as today it works just fine, I still use it for making music disks, but use Video pack V5 for VCD, don't use Nero much.

I burn them mostly at 24X with those 16X disks I have made lots at 40X also with no problems, but this is no use to you as I have a different writer. The wife makes disks regularly on the old TEAC 4X and Easy CD creator, she always makes an image first, as there is no burn proof with it None scrapped yet !!

  7. Hi KingJohn,
I'm not sure whether you have realised I have a Sony DVP S335.
    tonypro2 has a Sony DV 315 I think.
I think yourself and tonypro2 have no problem using cd-r.
Sony, with the DVP S335, have stopped cd-r playback I think !
I can use both commercial music cds and music burnt onto cd-rw, but unfortunately, cd-rw is incompatible with other domestic cd players. It looks as if I'll have to have a cd-r for domestic cd players and cd-rw for my Sony DVP S335 player !
    Regards, Steve Ashley.

p.s. if anyone has made a vivastar cd-r music cd play on a Sony DVP S335 could you please let me know !

Usually SONY doen't support CDR(/W)'s to play at it.
But sometimes, with particular discs, it still works. I believe you've got to have luck when a sony player plays your branch of cdr's.

If you want to have a garantee that your DVD-player plays all types of discs (CDR, CDRW and DVD) you've got to buy a new player - like I did.

  9. I had problems with my older Sony dvd player with compatibility issues.
However with the three Sony dvd players I have had (all different models) have recognised cdr and cdwr's. So I dont know what Betamax is on about.
(just look on the brochure of the model u r interested in, it will tell you its compatibility with cdwr or not).

I have used Vivastar cd's (yes, from argos) for over a year and have had no problems.
I have a copy of Blade from over a year ago and it plays just as well now as the day I burnt it.

I use Roxio Video pack to burn my (s)_vcd's and dvd's
