  1. I realize that the best reason to have a 1MB versus a 512K player is that the hack has macrovision and region updates. Are there any other advantages to have the 1 MB player?

  2. It also plays VCD's. I don't think the 512's do.

  4. I have two 512k units and so far they work great with VCD,XVCD SVCD XSVCD , I used the region free hack without a problem in both of them. but beware that there seems to be a few AD-1100W 512K units out there, mainly in canada, that have a different chip so the hack will kill those units.

  5. I've got the 1MB. I saw 2 left at the Wal-Mart where I live, but from what I've read and heard, there aren't many left. I'd recommend the 1MB over the 512k if you can find it because I know that all the 1MB's play VCDs. People with the 512k's have varying reports or whether VCD works or not.

Also, if you're looking for the 1MB player at Wal-Mart check out this link:

  6. All 1 MB players will play VCD's. None seem to have been made later than early this year. The older 512k players will play VCD's also. The difference between the two is what hacks are available. These two are getting hard to find. See nerd-out.com for figuring out what type of player it is based on the outside of the box.

The newer 1100's are all 512k and don't play VCD's. Most stock out there right now is this type.
