  1. I have upgraded my computer with Secondary Hard disk. I want to know what are all the steps I should do to replace my old primary hard disk with my brand new hard disk.

I have Windows XP Pro and I want to install Windows XP Pro in my new hard disk.

  2. First decide how you want to do the transfer. You could go out and buy a software program that would do it. Ghost 2002 will image your disk.

    My idea would be to,
    1. Configure the new drive as Master and the old one as slave
    2. Install XP on the new master drive.
    3. Transfer all your stuff off of the old drive onto the new one.

  4. devinemil83,

Actually right now I have 12 GB maxtor Hard disk as my primary hard disk and 80 GB Western Digital as my Secondary drive. I am keeping this 80 GB drive as my downloadables, songs, etc...

I have only the OS(Windows XP Pro) and other softwares in my C drive (12 GB).

Now I want to replace my 12 GB maxtor with my new 80 GB 8MB cache Western Digital drive which I am going to get it tomorrow(I ordered it in newegg.com :P ). Actually I want to reinstall everything Windows XP and other softwares I want to use. I have all the softwares and drivers.

So is it not possible I can just swap my C drive with my new hard disk and install Windows XP.

This is what i am thinking.

I don't have any data which needs to be backed up.

1)swap the c drive with new hard disk
2)Boot With Widows 2000 Pro CD (Since I can't install Windows XP directly) and Install Windows 2000 Pro .
    3) Upgrade to Windows XP pro.
    4) Install other softwares.
