i tried to burn my first vcs yesterday using the newbie guide but when i statted to encode using TMPeg the remaining timewas 67 hours. is there a faster way or is it possible to encode the vobs at different times then join them togather if so can you please help

As you didn't mention what settings you are using it is difficult to say what the normal time would be for encoding - also the processor you are using is of importance here.
You can however either use the original VOB files or if you want to make them even smaller use a program called VOB Utils which will devide the VOB's into chapter VOB's. These you could seperately encode into mpg's and later merge together - so it's all up to you.
