Hi.
I have ATI TV Wonder PCI and I capture video with:
DScaler 4 + VirtualDub 1.4.10!
In WinXP I can set the resolution in VirtualDub at 640x288!
I can't set larger than that!
In Win98SE goes to 640x480 and more!
Why I can't set in XP tocapture with 640x480? hm...
Probably because of different TV Wonder drivers...?
But, it must be the way in XP to capture with 640x480!
Any idea how to ''hack'' it?
I hate 640x288 or 352x288.
Help me, PLEASE!!!
Thanks a lot!
bye

I shouldn't make u feel upset but if it is avi capturing your trying to do then as far as the learned ppl outhere are aware, youre stuck with x288 max resolution with PAL (Obviously I'm assuming your card is based on the rage128 basic chipset. My card is an AIW128 16Mb PCI version and it sucks cause its based on this exact chipset).
AIW128 Pro or AIW Radeons do not have this problem.
The other alternative is if u want to capture more than x288 on avi then uninstall the latest drivers u got and use the old 6.XXX display drivers.Unfortunalety,ATI stopped supporting higher than x288 on the latest drivers. -
Thanks for suggestions.
I have GeForce 4 4200 and ATI TV Wonder PCI,
not AIW (All-in wonder ...)!
I'll try with version 6.xxx. Do you mean MMC 6.xxx
with drivers included?
Does 6.xxx drivers work in WinXP?
If I install universal bt8x8 drivers 5.3.2 (Conexant's),
then in VDub it is possible to capture with 640x480 and higher, but
when I click Capture Video, sound (audio) dissapear!
I still cant capture successfuly with Vdub.
Any ideas?
Thanx.

I've been reading though many of these posts trying to figure out a way to capture an uncompressed .avi file at a 480 X 480 resolution with my ATI TV Wonder VE. I tried many configurations including the universal tv drivers at http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/
The drivers did allow me to capture at 480 X 480 in VirtualDub but most of the channels were in black and white. I then decided to just reinstall my ATI drivers and use the crappy MMC 7.6 to capture straight to MPEG. I'm currently using the beta tvw-pci-ve-mmc-7-6-0-1a drivers at ATI's website. If i tried to capture in VirtualDub with these drivers, i could only get the resolution at xxx X 240. I then stumbled upon Virtual VCR at http://www.digtv.ws/html/virtualvcr/download.php. The program allowed me to capture at 480 X 480 to uncompressed .avi using the huffyuv v2.1.1 codec. I tried it at 640 X 480 and it worked too. The picture is in color and the sound captures right with no sync issues at all. I don't know if it worked because of reinstalling and installing different drivers so many times, and installing so many programs, but it works for me. I could reformat my computer and try it out, but since I can now capture at 480 X 480, I think I'll wait. This is my resolution to ATI's lack of support for high resolutions. Capturing will work, but you can't preview the video while capturing. -
4DeLuX4, sorry mate the info I know is about the AIW128 but as far as i am aware yout tv wonder should not be too different.
Anywayz, forget what I said just there? To fix your virtual dub sound probelm try ...
IMPORTANT INFO FOR AUDIO CABLES FROM VHS
First, your audio MUST come straight from the source and into your sound card.
DO NOT run it thru the capture card. I repeat DO NOT run it thru your capture card.
This was my problem.
Next, go to your recording properties. Do this by double clicking on your "Volume" icon on the taskbar or go to "sounds" in the control panel. After you get that open then go to "Options" and then "Properties". Change the button from Playback to Recording and then make sure your "Line IN" is selected. After that click OK. Now make sure that you select "Line In" underneath the slider bar for volume.
Now again double click on your "Volume" icon on the taskbar. On the Play Control options
make sure Line-in box is unchecked. Vuwalaah!
Now run Virtual Dub -
Also, regarding the black and white TV problem with the generic drivers. I had that problem as well, you need to manually select the TV tuner for it to tune the channels properly. With my ATI Tv Wonder VE it was the Phillips NTSC or something like that. I'm using those drivers and love em.
