  1. Is anyone here interested in standalone or portable VCD players ? I'm looking at bringing some in from Asia if I can get enough people interested. Being VCD players alone (CANNOT play DVD) , they are much cheaper than DVD players. Anyone interested ?

  2. Well, I've just bought this player http://www.likko.com/en/product/LKM201J-J4.htm on E-Bay for £55. I'll let you know what it's like when (if??) it arrives. Is it players like these that you are planning to import?

  4. So with that portable one you showed do u just connect it up to a tv and it will play VCD's , JPEG CD's and also MP3 cd's via headphones. That's sweat, i wanna get one. live in Australia though, might be a bit hard.

  5. The portable player comes with a RCA cable for you to hook up to your TV and it will play VCD/MP3 CDs (not sure about JPEG, will find out) . It will even run off AA batteries. I will ship worldwide, as long as you cover the cost of shipping. If I get enough interest from you guys, i can start getting some samples and taking pictures.

  7. Perhaps there would be more interest if you suggested a selling price.

  9. Right, my VCD portable arrived this morning. It will play commercially pressed VCD's fine but wont play home authored ones. There is a jump in the picture once every second. It is very regular so I assume it is something to do with bitrates or the TMPGenc coder. Tried it out with lots of different sample files at different bitrates but the best one is the standard VCD 1150 one. Now if only I can get rid of the jumping frames, I'll be happy.

I've got one of the early Napa players that play VCD. Some play pefectly, but some don't. And a more recent Napa I got only plays mp3! I'm not sure if a good, cheap portable exists, but if it does, I would be interested!

I don't know if it's based on the Napa or not. From what I've read, there's no portable VCD players worth a damn, but if I can get this one to play reasonably well, I'll be happy. I would go for a portable DVD if I wanted really good quality.

  13. Ok guys, i have quite a selection of brands/models that i can get my hands on. There seems to be a lot of unknown brands popping up , but there are also some branded ones. For the not so popular brands, i can offer a slighty lower price than that canadian website. For more money, i can get better quality branded ones, from Panasonic, Sony..etc..

I purchased a portable Panasonic VCD Player in HKG a couple of years ago and it plays all my VCDs with no problems. I also have a portable Panasonic DVD player and it plays all of my vcds and svcds. I bought a couple of Napas for my kids and they are trash. Original price on Panasonic VCD player was $80USD

  15. To be honest, the non-branded ones looks very cheaply made. How about standalone ones ? No one interested in standalone, play-it-all VCD players for around $60 ?

  16. Finally got a homemade VCD that works in my portable VCD player (Likko) I had been messing around with bitrates with no success and came to the conclusion that it must be TMPGenc itself as I also have problems with standard VCD's created by TMPGenc playing on my Cyberhome 528 or on Power DVD on my PC. I tried out DVDx as an MPEG1 encoder and the finished VCD's play PERFECTLY in my little portable. However the picture quality of DVDx is shite, so I will have to see what other encoders work with the Likko. I will be away on holiday for a couple of weeks from Tuesday and now at least I will have a few movies to watch at nights!
