  1. i have a hard time trying to figure out what type of card to buy.

i know that real time cards are more expensive and from what i understand, you don't have to wait for your computer to render transitions, etc. it's all done at that instant, correct?

can someone who has exerience with a real time cards let me know your experience. i also want to know if my computer will be fast enough to take full advantage of a real time card.

    i have the following:

    2.26 MHz P4
    512 DDR33 RAM

can you also recommend a good card for under $1,000. i want to make home movies and eventually burn to DVD and VCD.

i'm looking at the new Matrox rtx.100 for the high end card or the new Pinnacle Studio Version 8 for the low end card.

    thanks!

i use several real time cards and have access to most of them around here -- your computer is more than enough (there are boatloads of real time systems running on p3's 500 - 1ghz very very well) for any real time video edit card now avaible .. some cards have pretty restrictive requirments on the system they are in and MANY cards have some problems w/ dual CPU (they can work but are more fussy ) hence that is why a lot of the really high end cards are only certified with use on a certain system.

that matrox rtx100 is GREAT card and well worth the money --

for your system , more memory and a raid stripped drive array and a seperate drive for audio is a must for serious video editing .

  3. thanks.

do you have the matrox rtx100 or have used it?

i'm assuming it has everything you will ever need right? like inputs for digital AND analog and will let you output to DVD and vcd and all that stuff?

how about the Pinnacle studio cards?

yes it has dvd mpeg output ... but audio is through your audio card -- except if it is dv digital input which it has ..

no i dont have one because i need SDI and component input/output and 8 channel audio i/o digital and analog.

i have a Pinnacle ReelTime Nitro 3D SDI card right now -- which was about a 10grand card ..
i have also a targa 2000rtx which i dont use anymore which was about 12,000 new about 3-4 years ago plus the cost of a avid lic.

Pinnacle support has been rather spotty or poor i have to say but thier products are fine ...

I've had a lot of exper. w/ matrox products and thier support, at least for me, has been first rate.
