  1. Welp, just got home from work hooked up my new apex dvd player and popped in a Hypermedia cd with run tel dat and success. It was a cdr so i have yet to test it with other types of media. I dont know anyone with dvdr or dvdrw so dont knwo what im gonna do 'bout that. but i can test cdrw adn stuff. Buit so far so good. gonna try some more movies see how they go. I think im gonna use this as a test dummy 'cause it was cheap. Im gonna try the region hack and flash the rom , change the background all that crap. Hopefully itll work. if you have any comments bout this particular dvd player go ahead and post please just to get soem feedback. im still looking at a daewoo 5800 that thxkid recommended.

Yes, if you buy any Apex and you want it to play VCD, don't get one manufactured after 15th April 2002. (And no, I don't know how to tell when it was manufactured).

Direct correspondence with Apex gives me this information. I presume it is because they don't want to have to pay Philips for the license to play VCD, which maybe they think is not an important factor when choosing a DVD player.

  7. Check out this link:

This link will help you identify the 1MBs. You ought to try and trade in your 512KB for a 1MB one. There are still some 1MB Apex AD-1100w's out there. With the 1MB you can disable Macrovision (run DVD player through VCR). This also helps because you won't need to buy an RF Modulator, because you can't hook up older TV's to a DVD player without one. But if you have a TV with A/V inputs you'll be ok. You can make both the 512KB and 1MB region free. The 1MB play VCD, but I've heard people have problems playing VCD with the 512KBs, and there's no macro hack.
