  1. I've tried almost every different encoding method with TMPGenc...2pass, CQ, etcetera, on bandwidths from 1700-2524...And the SVCD WILL NOT play smoothly.

The encoding is alright, the SVCD looks fine when I play it on my computer, but the DVD player refuses to play it properly.

The encoding methods and resolutions are SVCD standard...Nothing's wrong.

I can't figure it out, and it's annoying the bloody hell out of me.

DVDs run, VCDs run...But I can't get the middle ground!

  2. Try remuxing your mpeg2 as a non-standard mpeg1. Burn as a non standard mpeg1. This should work because you are fooling your dvd player in thinking it is a vcd but really is a svcd.

  3. What kinda of player are you using??? Also is your audio 224 at 44mhz?? Is your bitrate too high??? Just trying to help you figure this out.

  4. Try This: My other post was not correct
Open Tmpgenc, go to FILE --> MPEG Tools --> Simple
Multiplex. Open your SVCD film in Video Input. Now
name your output MPEG something diffrent. Go to the
top of the tools window and select "MPEG-1 Video CD",
    click run.

Go to Nero Burning Rom. Choose the Video-CD template.
NOT SVCD! Unclick the "Create standard compliant cd"
option. Select new, drag and drop your file in and
    burn. That's it.

  5. Panasonic DVD-RV32

    Way I encode SVCDs:

    non-interlace
    224/44 audio
    16:9 525 NTSC
    Film movie
    Set the source range
    2-pass VBR (VBR)
    Average bitrate: 2000
    Maximum: 2520
    Minimum: 1700
Enable padding to not be lower than the minimum bitrate is checked
    Encode mode: 3:2 pulldown playback
Motion Search Precision: normal or high quality
Field order: Top field first (A)
Video Arrange method: Full-screen, keep aspect ratio

I'm using SSRC and tooLame as plugins with TMPGenc.

Then I burn with nero at 8x.

Audio is ripped with full stream processing from virtualdub.

And then I pop it in my DVD player, and I get to watch shitty slow-mo.

I just use the wizard...Is that bad?

  8. Thrax:

Have you tried the mpg1 header solution offered by kjmacke?

I also noticed in the owners' comments in the DVD Player compatibility section (in the left column) that some other people have had problems too.

Try putting the max bitrate at 2200 & avg bitrate at 2200 (both same) and see if that makes a difference. Use the mpg1 header too.

Another thought: Try burning at a slower speed---say 4x. Less chance of errors that way.

  9. Sorry for sticking my head in..
How about try CBR @ 2376000

I did, I tried, I went through hell like you, and finally I came across "Flask", all I did was select bbMPEG default SVCD with CBR in video stream setting, and voilà..

(Make sure you check/uncheck PAL/NTSC default)

I'll try both the suggestions and get back with ya. Thanks guys

    Im Having the same problem
After doing about 50 VCD decided to try SVCD
Encoded my film with TMPG in Standard SVCD mode ,created an
Meg2 File.Followed the instructions on site using Nero 5.5.9 to
author and burn ,Everthing went okay .but when I try to play the
disc "Power DVD" reports "A disk with Unsupported format in Drive H"
Then I tried with Ulead DVD Movie factory .Again when I tried to play the
Disk I get "A disk with Unsupported format in Drive H" neith disk worked on my standalone machine
I can access the disk though my computer which shown the 4 correct files
and can ever open the Mpg file on disc and play through windows media
player ,Have tried to change the compatability format but with still
no joy .I am using Philips Rw Disk which work okay for VCD and assume
that because windows accesses them this is not the problems
Tried the VCD option above which plays on my Computer DVD through
Power DVD but my Standalone Philips 711 wount accept it.The flask program didnt work either.
I know my Philips accepts SVCD at I got a copy of lord of the rings on SVCD and it plays fine (No I dont know who Made it or how).
All I can think of is that the encoding has to be dont under different option
so am trying this at the minute and will let you know.
If this does not work it looks like back to just VCD which from a DVD rip
    still look good.

    Thanks

  12. Well...

    I fixed it.

My problem was centered around me not paying attention.

The movie is 23.97 FPS, every time I was encoding, I was doing it at 29.97.

I switched to 23.97 FPS encoding, 2200/2200 MVBR, and did the mpeg1 remux...And I'm proud to say it works.

Thanks to EVERYONE for their help
