help downloading and playing a movie

I am trying to download a movie.
Can someone tell me how to download a movie then how to put it onto a vcd. When ever I try to play a down0loaded movie all I get is a blank screen with a few lines.
Im new to this so any help would be very much apprectiated.
Also how do I get a vcd codec.

in which format is the movie?

I think the movie was in avi format.
When I tried to play the move back on the computer I kept getting a message saying format unsopported.

go to the tools section and download the Nimo codecs, I too am new and that helped solve my problem playing avi files so hopefully it will help you

I have tried to download the nimo codec pack but the site is always down.
I have just downloaded divx player which I can now play avi file and have also downloaded avi2vcd . If i use these programs and decode the avi files are they then mpg files and can I copy them to a vcd.I'm new at this so please bare with me.

I'm about as new as you are my friend. I have downloaded TMPGEnc and that seems to be a good program but I haven't yet tried avi2vcd, it should work for you though, you might also need a burning program which you can find on the tools page. VCDEasy and Nero seem to be some of the most popular ones. TMPGEnc seems to be one of the most highly regarded encoders. If you find anything that helps you out, let me know.
