Downloading MP4 to Movie Maker 2.6

I like to download MP4 videos and make my own movie in Windows Movie Maker 2.6. However Movie Maker 2.6 will not accept MP4 videos?? Is there some code or some way to do this?

Or, in Movie Maker in Windows 7 I can open MP4 videos but it doesn't open in small individual clips like MM 2.6 and I cannot overlay clips etc. It also doesn't provide the storyline on the bottom where you can change things around easily.

Anybody have any advice..?

COnvert the mp4 to avi with mp4camtoavi.
