I have a chipped Toshiva SD100E (to play any region DVDs as well as CDR) but every time I stick in a video CD (and I've created them in a number of different ways) I get 'Disc Error' messages and it won't play.
Any ideas?

As far as I know chipping has nothing to do with CDR compatability. This machine is not compatible with CDR only CDRW. Although if you check the DVD player compatability list some people report it working with a particular brand of CDR. I would suggest the first thing you try is burning to a CDRW and see if that works.
