Why is it that when i try to burn to a vcd using nero, nero converts the mpeg to a .dat file, is it suposed to do that?

yes - that is normal for a vcd file ... but others here are a lot more vcd guru's to explain exactly why ..

Hi,
Changing the names is part of the "authoring" done by Nero and is to comply with the standard for VCDs on stand-alone DVD players.
You may need to install DVD-player software such as WinDVD to play it on a computer (I don't use VCDs so I can't check).
Your stand-alone player may not play VCDs; check the "DVD players" section in the left-hand column of this screen.
