1) We just bought a new JVC XV-S500BK DVD player. It accepts .JPG photo's no problem, but do ALL DVD players take such a long time to display .JPG photo's? Even the lower-resolution files are like watching PAINT dry waiting for them to display. We're disappointed. Is this just an issue with JVC?
Can anyone HELP please!! If this is JUST a JVC problem we can go back today and get a DVD player that works the way we want, but if this is an issue with every DVD player?? We wanted to use the DVD player as our new "photo album" and scan all our photo's to show on the TV.![]()
2) I want to play MP3's "random" just like using an audio CD on an audio CD player. This JVC DVD unit lets you "random" play AUDIO CD's but NOT any MP3 cd's. Is there any DVD unit that plays MP3's "randomly" PLUS plays JPG files fast??
3) We are using an "RF Modulator" to play on an older "cable input only" TV. We are also using a VCR with the same TV. We find the only way to use this Modulator is to manually switch its output from Channel 3 to Channel 4 (the switch on the Modulator, not the TV) and then we can see the DVD output ok on the TV. But we would expect that we could turn the power on the DVD and it would seamlessly start showing on the TV. Manually switching the Modulator box is a pain. Any cabling suggestions or other means to use the DVD on an older TV?
4) AVI file-format playback would be nice too...Does any standalone DVD player do all of the above??
Thanks everyone!!

1) Known problem. If you read the comments almost everyone is dissapointed. Use VCD/SVCD slideshows.
2) Many DVD player have that problem
3) Wierd
4) Check the DVDplayer listing. Remeber the more features the less likely they are to do all of them correctly. -
Thanks, snowmoon, for the help (keep 'em coming though, everyone - PLEASE!)
I tried looking all over for info on the slow JPG viewing, so apologies if this one is beat to death. At least you can count my wife and I in the disappointed crowd. If the JPG viewing was decent, I would be happy with the DVD viewing. It would be great to "slide show" these files without converting to yet another program. Hardware manufacturers, give us what we want, please!!!
Sorry for the ignorance on this (and thanks for the patience!!) but would VCD / SVCD slideshows...work on the standalone DVD players (like our new JVC unit) AND give a decent display of the pics without waiting forEVER for them to show, like the JPG files themselves do??
As for the MP3 "Random" option...is there any unit that DOES this?
.....I'm still stumped on the RF modulator (see original post please). (Searching for a solution on the net as we speak).
As for the AVI playing....recommendations appreciated.
Back to searching...will check here in a bit. Again, thanks, everyone!!

Most DVD players load up S/VCD high resolution still images very quickly.
I strongly recommend you use VCDEasy to encode the stills and make the disc if you don't use one of the specialist commercial programs (one of the Ulead proggies)...
http://www.vcdimager.org/guides
http://www.vcdeasy.org
The quality will be excellent (they will be near the max. possible resolution for TVs)
