  1. I'm sure it's been asked before, but how can I take a live video I've captured into MPEG and splitit into individual tracks easily while clipping extra off the beginning and end of the video? Also, what's an easy way to add simple text at the beginning of the video as a title?

    .mpg
Use TMPGEnc > merge/cut use the source range for start and end for each save.

    .AVI
    Use Vdub

You can add a simple picture with text on it, or use a animation program like Animation Shop 3 that comes with Paint Shop Pro, it can save AVI's which can later me converted to mpeg

  3. i dunno, but why do ppl insist on using tmpgenc? (other than it being great coz its free)

it takes AGES to split big files coz i think it demux/muxs stuff.....so seeks etc.

i use myflix, which i dunno what it does...but it just grabs the bit out or something?

(sorry bit of a newbie in terms of explaining things here)

ewat, there must be something very wrong with what your doing as it only takes seconds to split a 1.2Gb movie in half, and less for smaller ones.

Other than being free, its a very good program, unlike M2-4 Edit and my flix which makes standard mpegs non standard.

  5. ah
thats to split it in half

select a small section near the end
betcha it takes AGES to seek there and so forth

it seems to take longer the further into the file it is =|

It does not matter where you split or how many, its streaming and only takes seconds.

I prefered VCD CUTTER to do those kind of things

    King John,
    I have 2 capture cards,PV231 and Broadway
The mpeg file from B'way have no problem cutting and merging with TMPEG but the mpeg file from PV231 will have no sound after editing with TMPEG.
Do you have an answer ?

After editing ?, so the capture is ok before you start encoding ?. So you cannot cut files made with PV231 ? did you select the VCD from the drop down list, and try the correct button.

If you drop the .mpg into an authoring program does it complain about anything (Apart from size) ?

both pv231 & Broadway is hardware encoding card,so no software encoding is needed.

No problem if I use vcd cutter though !
The captured file is OK when dropped to vcd authoring software (I use both Nero and Roxio)

Yes and its the hardwear encoding that gives more problems than anything else, with dropped frames
