  1. OK, I'm old and trying to get to grips with new technology, but failing! Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong/not doing at all.

I recently purchased a Cyberhome ADL528 multi-region DVD player which I chose as it could play Video CDs etc.
I use Pinnacle Studio 7 to get movie clips from my camcorder and edit them. I then use the Pinnacle software to save the file as a VCD file (it's one of the options in their software). I save the file onto the hard disk of my computer and then use Adaptec Easy CD Creator to record the Data file onto a writable CD.
The DVD player just says 'Bad Disk'. I've tried different disk makes (philips, Maxel, Trax); I've tried different formats for saving SVCD, MPEG1, MPEG2 etc. I've even taken the DVD player back to the shop and they have put one of their VCD's into it and it worked fine.
What am I doing wrong, please help - thank you.

    Hi

Well hopefully that DVD player does play CDR VCD not just VCD (There is a difference) It sounds like you have not yet made a VCD, so you need to ensure that the .mpg is fully compliant. Many programs can convert/make mpeg 1 files, but that does not mean they are fully compliant.

In TMPGEnc you can select a VCD template

    PAL (UK, Australia, Europe)
    Video-CD PAL (MPEG-1 352x288 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)
    NTSC (USA)
    Video-CD NTSC (MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps)

Failing to make a VCD with the above specifications, could render the disk useless on your player. Once you have verified it plays compliant VCD's you could move on to see what else it supports.

It is also important to find out what CDR types your DVD player likes, start with HQ disks like Maxell or TDK before trying out cheap ones.

So, does your DVD player play CDR VCD's (Those you make) or commercial VCD's only

Adaptec Easy CD Creator to record the Data file onto a writable CD.
You are using VCD in that program ?

There should be a burn template within Easy CD Creator for making a Video CD (VCD). If you are simply taking a VCD compliant MPEG-1 file and burning it as a DATA DISC, then the disc will NOT be recognized as VCD. VCD is more than just a file format, it is also a standard for placing video and other particulars in specific folders on disc. Try using the very same MPEG-1 file in VCDEasy, which you can find through the Tools section of this website. VCDEasy will scan the MPEG-1 file to determine if it is VCD compliant and likely offers more options for authoring VCD than does Easy CD Creator.

I am sure you will, Easy CD Creator (VCD Creator) is very good when there are no problems with the mpeg 1. If there are any problems, it will let you know.
