  1. I`ve just installed the new hardware with the software bundle that came with it. So far it`s a disappointment!

When I try to burn disc to disc atfer couple % done it comes up with an error message./check the disc for scraches, fingerprints, dust/
Dvd is my own and brand new. Nero 5582 says it`s copyrighted and doesn`t even begin burn it.

I`ve tryed to save it on hard drive in my documents with "unlead dvd".
It looked like it worked, but I didn`t find it there, and I`m sure it wasn`t saved somewhere else, I still had the same amount of free space.

    Can someone help me?
What software do you use for simply burn, or save it on hard drive?
    Should I update something?

Please post what system you have. I am trying to see if there is a pattern here.

Now to solve your problem. Go to Device Manager, and under the IDE/ATAPI controller, go to where your 200i is. For example, my 200i is the Secondary Slave, so I went to the Secondary channel, and then under Advanced Settings, I picked the Device 1 and set it to PIO Mode only. Your milage may vary depending on where your drive is, but this will solve you issue.

Have fun. Luckilly I have a dual Athlon, so when the PIO mode burn sucks up one of the CPU's, I still have another available to service other threads.

  3. My system is described under my profile.

I adjusted the secondary IDE chanel to PIO mode only, but still doesn`t work. Does the DMA and PIO mode have to do anything with the burning?

I`m totally on the dark side about it. It works as a cd burner, so it shouldn`t be a hardware problem.
All the softwares came with the dvd copier should work, but I can only use the cd copier options.
What software do you use to make an exact copy, or save the movie on the harddrive? If I could put it on the harddrive, I might be able to burn it from there. But with what?

  4. You cannot copy disc to disc directly using the HP utilities if the source disc is commercial DVD. It is protected. You must use a ripping software like SmartRipper to enable copying to disk. Then you can re-burn to a DVD+RW, but only if the size of the VOB files is under 4.7 GB.

There are many DVD Ripping and copying guides on this site.

In my excitement to help someone out, like the help I received, I didn't digest the end of your posting. What I suggested doesn't appear necessary here, and it will actually slow down the DVD read speeds, so if you are affected, then I would set it back to DMA.

In my case, I couldn't burn a DVD I was authoring, so there was not copy protection concerns. I simply couldn't burn the DVD until I did the PIO mode change.

Go to www.doom9.org for some good guides on dealing with DVD's. I know that I will just keep buying them because it is an absolute pain to try and recreate chapters, menu's etc.

  6. Thanks for helping Jeepman and Luckydog! After 2 days of playing with my new "toy" finaly I could save the movie on the HD and burn it with nero.

Now I have a new problem.
What should I do with a movie above 4.7 gb?
Which is better shrink it or split it? Can it be played if it`s altered like this?

  7. Personally, I shrink them... The quality loss is not that terrible (of course I'm not too picky, if you are you may want to go the other way), and it beats the added expense and hassle of another disc.

  8. Has anyone used IFOEDIT yet for splitting or getting rid of unnecessery files?

Could you decrease the size enough to fit it on the 4.7 gb dvd?
Then did it burn and play properly?

I am still learning this. I am using the guides at www.doom9.net, and my test is Shrek DD 5.1 DVD, not the DTS DVD. I am at the point where I am identifying items (i.e. menus, etc.) I can take out, but am not done. I imagine it gets easier, but the time I have invested so far is not worth it for more than just this one DVD.
