I ordered a Sony DRX-500 external DVD writer six months ago, but have been finally informed that the supplier can not get any supplies of this or the replacement DRX-510UL. Another store has offered me a Freecom FX-50 external writer. I have looked at this and all of the other Forums but can find no information/postings relating to this unit. Given the postings on the difficulty of obtaining Sonys, how come the Freecom has never been mentioned? Is it any good?

    Cheers.

looks like they are using a NEC burner - nice looking firewire case which makes hookup a breeze ..
