  1. Hello All,

Long time reader, first time poster here. I am needing to know if my toshiba M1612 dvdrom drive in my computer is causing a problem with how my aspect ratios are detected in DVD2SVCD version 1.0.9 build 3. For instance, I put in my Gladiator DVD, and load up DVD2SVCD. It detects it as anamorphic, however, my friend (using his pioneer dvdrom drive) detects the movie as 16x9 borders added. Using the preview window, the anamorphic looks stretched vertically. If I change it to 16x9 borders added, it looks normal (i think) but adds a lighter black set of borders on top and bottom. So I have 2 sets of black borders. Please look at the following link for some screenshots I took of both aspect ratios.

Is it normal to have 2 shades of black borders? I just recently started using DVD2SVCD, but have been a long time creator of XVCDS using smartripper, dvd2avi, and tmpenc. However, my friend always thought all of my xvcds were a bit stretched vertically. What am I missing? Thanks!

  2. Oh my, figured out the 2 shades of black border problem. In dvd2avi for my xvcds, and the dvd2avi settings in DVD2SVCD, I have always added values in the lum gain/offset fields. So I now have that fixed, but why would the aspect ratio detection be wrong? Is that common, and to just adjust the correct setting by use of the preview window??
