I read the FAQ and they helped, but I'm still confused. I have a big archive of VHS and more importantly 8mm video tapes (analog) I want to convert to VCD or DVD. Currently I have a Compaq Athlon 700 with a CD-R drive and I also have a VCD compatible Sony DVD player. Is it possible to do the conversion with the hardware I have? What additional hardware and software would I need to do this easily?
Several people who do lots of this just told me to buy an G4 with the bundled software and superdrive as that would be the simplest approach.
I've never used an Apple, would the DVD and VCD disks made with the Apple be compatible with PC CD and DVD players?
Thanks!

A dvd is a dvd, just as an audio cd is an audio cd. If properly burned all can read and play it.
