  1. I have just downloaded a film which says it's an mpg file, however when I try to burn with nero it states "need mpg1 to burn to vcd". So I think the file maybe a mpg2. However when trying to encode using tmpeg it took 12 hours to encode 53% which turned out not to have sound. The first 2.8minutes of film takes very few minutes but then slows right down. Do I need to encode using different software or do I need a codec ? and if so how do Ienstall one. The film is the new Austin Powers!!!!!!!if that helps

Your processor speed and free resources effect the encode time...look at my specs...it takes 9-12 hours for me to do a two hour movie( depending on what I am changing)...so thats life in the encoding game...

The sound is a problem...I have never had problems with mpg sound going to mpeg for VCD...Its usally if the source file is divx...avi or other..

Can you play back file on pc as is...no sound problems?
What is the file ext....mpg...mpeg ..ect...??

  3. All other factors (encoding software and quality settings) being equal, CPU power is the overwhelming factor that determines encoding time. If you fill out your "computer details" section of your profile, we'll be able to see what CPU you have and thus judge your encoding time from there.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
