When I try to capture in Virtual Dub, it says "No Capture Driver Available". As far as I know, the drivers are installed correctly, but Virtual Dub, just doesn't see them. Can anyone help me out?
My Pinnacle DC10 plus Capture card came with "Pinnacle Studio" as the capture program, but it records the AVI in mjpeg compressed video. I want to record the video completely UNCOMPRESSED so that I can then compress it using MPEG 2 DVD without loosing too much quality. My research has led me to believe that Virtual Dub will let me record the video uncompressed. If that is true, then I would rather use that instead.
When I signed up on this message board, it asked me what kind of computer I was using, etc. and that it would be available to everyone on here. So, I hope you guy can find that info, if you need it.

VirtualDub does not use WDM but VMF (old technology).
Although it is said that in future WDM will be supported.
But it is not related to usage of it for getting UNCOMPRESSED video.
It's a matter of codec you use, not a tool.
This means you should use HUFFYUV with 24RGB. That's all. -
You need the 'wrapper' file. Just do a forum search for ATI wrapper. That will enable Virtualdub to use your WDM capture driver.

supposedly this is included in dx 8.1, but im not sure -
I tried the wrapper file. I no longer get that message, but 3 different ones. Here is what they say:
(1) Capture device was not detected (and it only has an ok button, when pressed takes me to message #2).
(2) Virtualdub cannot connect to the desired capture driver. Trying all available drivers (again, it only has an ok button, when pressed takes me to message #3).
(3) PANIC: VirtualDub cannot connect to any capture drivers! (Again, it only has an ok button that when pressed, will finally go back to the VirtualDub screen.
Koic: I can't change the codec in Pinnacle studio. It will only use the mjpeg codec. Any suggestions? -
This happens very often with this fix.
It did not work for my ATI RADEON.
I would suggest you to try other than capturing soft.
I work with iuVCR http://www.iulab.com/eng/index.shtml -
I second koic. I gave up trying to capture with VirtualDub, and its halfassed WDM support, and got iuVCR. From what I've read, it has the best WDM support of any capture program. Plus, iuVCR has a good, easy to use, scheduling utility so I can cap shows when I'm not home. VirtualDub doesn't have this feature built-in, but there is a 3rd party program that adds it.

I tried iuVCR just like you guys said, and it's wonderful! It records the video at a higher quality rate than my other program, but I can't get the sound to record. Whenever I press "start" it won't do anything, unless, I tell it NOT to record any sound. Is there anything I can do about this? I tried the drivers on the iuVCR site, but they didn't work. It records the video perfect though!

In most cases you just did not setup Audio In correctly.
Other 'bug' with audio is that sometimes sound is lost
for immediate output, but recorded. Meaning that you don't
here it, but when it comes to playback file, it HAS sound.
Other problem with sound is, that it is not even recorded
My workaround, I turn ON source (VCR/camera) first
and then (after) iuVCR. -
well, it will not record any VIDEO or AUDIO *UNTIL* I press "Do not record sound" otherwise, it won't record anything. I tried turning on the source (ie VCR) first, but it still does the same thing.

This is absolutely strange !?
What's your hardware and source and connection to the source ? -
I have a Pinnacle DC10plus Capture Card. It has only video inputs, no audio inputs, or outputs. For audio, I have to use my Soundblaster Live 5.1 Surround Sound card.
It captures the video perfect, only if I tell it not to record any audio, otherwise, it will not let me press the "Start Recording" button.
When I record in Pinnalce Studio (the program that came with my capture card, it has NO problems recording the sound. It records the sound perfectly, so I know that I have the soundcard hooked up correctly).
The only reason why I didn't want to use Pinnacle Studio was because it compressing the video, while it was recording it, but I guess that's just the way that my capture card is.
I want to thank everyone here for all of their time and effort to help me. I really appreciate it, even though I wasn't able to overcome the problem. -
you may want to look into updating the audio drivers for your sound card... as a test, try to record something with sound recorder..under accessories.
-
I have the very latest sound drivers already. I got them from the soundcard's website. It records audio perfectly, without video, and video record's perfectly without audio. Pinnacle Studio has been the only program that I have that's been able to record BOTH audio and video.

I had a similar problem with iuVCR and no sound capture. The way I fixed it was to send the sound with a cable to the AUDIO INPUT of my audio card then choose Line-in for Audio on the iuVCR and now I get sound recorded. The problem with this is that when you turn off iuVCR you are still hearing sound on your speakers. To kill the sound you got to go to the Task Bar Audio Control and Mute Line-In audio.
My Capture Picture Shot (BMP) does not work on iuVCR. It will produce a BMP file but have not found any Picture program to open it up (no MS Picture, or Photoshop recognize it as a valid BMP or pcture file, like it was corrupted.)
