I need to fix a sync problem when converting an .avi file to mpg.
Virtualdub gives me the following message when opening the avi file -
"Virtualdub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the Source avi file and will rewrite the audio header with standard cbr values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 381533 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unnacceptable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed wav file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder (bitrate: 151.0 +/- 91.0 kbps)"
I have created the wav, but when I try to combine the wave with the avi to produce an mpg I get an unsynchronized product! I have tried using the method described in the newbie conversion methods to no avail. How do I recompress the wav file as suggested by virtualdub?![]()

I have now found that while downloading the avi, some "noise" was added to the film clip - there is a 2 minute segment that is garbled. Strangely enough the avi "corrects itself" with regard to synchronization, but when producing the mpg, sections of the clip are repeated, which then throw the sync out! I am in the process of trying to cut out the bits of mess.
Does anyone have further suggestions of how this can be done easily, quickly and retain sync? -
Finally, someone that has some insight. I've been tearing my hair out for 2 days. I had the same problem from a D/L Divx from the internet. When I did the fix for the improper VBR audio it would start fine then get out of sync by about 2 seconds later in movie. I watched the mpg and found a 2-second clip of noise. I used the mpeg tools from TMPGenc to cut the movie from the beginning up until after the noise (audio in sync up until this point). I then cut the post noise part of the mpg and did the audio sync fix with audio gap correction in TMPGenc until it was back in sync. I then rejoined the 2 mpgs back together. Thanks for the insight about introduced noise...I was stumped!
