  1. I am new to this whole capture thing and was interested in your ideas as to what will give me near dvd quality capture from a cable signal for tv. What Kind of card is best for this? any help is greatly appreciated.

Any good sites would also be helpful as well.

    Thanks

  2. Funny how you asked for sites and yet you are probably on one of the most newbie friendly websites ever created when it comes to the subject matter of desktop video related issues.

What I also find funny is how you just went straight to the FORUM link or maybe you did a search engine and found a link to the forum and automatically ASSumed that this is the end of the site.

Do yourself a favor and put a little effort into actually looking around the site before you post a very vague (WHAT an understatement!) question topic like the post you have so graciously provided us.

  3. Since cable TV itself is not "near-DVD" quality (how near is that exactly, how is that qualified?), you can't get "near-DVD" quality captures. The best you can do is cable TV quality (you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, you can't polish a turd, etc.) For all reasonable intents and purposes, your source material is as good as your captures can ever be.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

I agree with Deadpac about the hospitality on this site. I visit it even when I do not have any problems creating video.

As for capture cards and their effectiveness toward capturing cable video, we are waiting for the Other-->Capture Cards database to come up out of maintenance to get better insight. I suggest you wait as well, as you will have more information at your disposal.

In the meantime, you should acquaint yourself with the How to -->Newbie guides to get you "up to speed". Nothing wrong with being a newbie, but you should be well-informed newbie, no?
    Hello.
