  1. I am brand new to the DVD world. I am looking for a player for myself that has all the features I can possibly get without draining my wallet. I am not sure what features I really need. I am looking to be able to play Mpg and Avi movies on it. Please give me suggestions as to features and possible recommendations as to brand names and model #'s. I am wanting to stay at a reasonable price so the ones for $500 or so are out of the question. Please help!

On the left click on DVD Players under "OTHER". Then click on "Top Recommended". I would recommend any of the top 3 Pioneer players, the DV-333, DV-343, or DV-434.

  3. I own a Pioneer DV-343, it has played every VCD/SVCD I've ever made (using Nero 5). Highly recommended.

  5. Right now I have the Phillips 825 and it works great, but the next one that I will get is Pioneer, without question. The only thing that I will miss about my phillips is the MP3 support, but you can encode a mp3 file into a "slide & Sound Show" that works on my father in-law's Pioneer DV-333 ( I made him a Harry Potter collection of the audio books with images that I found on the internet for each chapter).

Definitely 100% the Pioneer. If you want MP3 ability you might consider an APEX or some other chinese DVD player, but the Pioneer is much better with the lip sync problems (ie, there isn't any lip sync). I have an APEX AD600A and I want to retire it to MP3, and recording DVDs and playing not Region 1 DVDs, then get the Pioneer for my main movie/svcd player.

  7. I agree I would buy the Pioneer dv-434

esp if you are here and plan to make lots of VCDs -- mine plays all my various xSVCD's and xVCD's

plus the mpeg decoder on the pioneer 434 cleans up the output of even crappy VCD's (smooths out some macro-blocks)

  8. Don't know if you're interested in a cheaper model (no brand name) but Tiny are selling a dvd player that plays vcd, cdr/w and mp3, oh yeah and DVDs for £109.99 delivered.
If interested http://www.tinyaccessories.co.uk, if you can't find it, email me and I'll email you the link.
    Hope this helps

  9. If you want cheap but functional, get the APEX 1500. It has been working great for me.

  10. I have the APEX ad660 and it works great,no problems with DVD or VCD. But no DVD player will play AVI though.
