  1. the apex 1500 is a good dvd player that plays almost anything you throw at it mp3s, svcd vcd dvd etc. however when i download svcd movies burn them to a cdr blank at times the player door wont open or close you really have to play with it to get it open whether its done manually or with remote. also it wont play the svcd right away you have to keep fidgeting with controls before it finally plays. now this might be problem im using staples cdrs to burn 700mg 80 min when i change cdrs ill give an update but until then is there anyone out there incurring the same difficulties i am having ? pre recorded dvd movies from the stores give me no problems

ive had mine for a while now and the only problem ive had so far is that i cant fast forward or rewind my svcds (yes, i used nero and yes i didnt put in that scandata.dat or whatever file in teh ext folder) but other then that is pretty cool and pretty cheap!

another thing, i hate how the remote is needed to basically play anything, since the player only has, eject, play, pause buttons...

  3. i agree with you it plays anything you throw at it as opposed to other high priced units. its just that when playing burned svcds it does at times become a pain trying to play it. then the open and close door issue eventually it will play maybe its the media im using staples cdrs 700 mg 80 min. as far as dvd movies from video store no problem at all

It might be a media issue. I usually use Yamaha 24x CDR media. Yamaha sells them on the spindle as made in France, USA, or Taiwan... make sure yours says "Taiwan". (The packaging is otherwise identical).

SVCDs authored with Ulead and burned with Nero, PrimoDVD, etc play perfectly in my AD-1500. Search does work. I did put in the macrovision/RCE/region hack disc, so that may be another thing you'll want to do.

Other media I have had good luck with are various generic-branded where it says "Made by Mitsui Chemical" or "Made by Taiyo Yuden" on it... regardless of the packaging, discs from those two factories are VERY good, and rarely do you get bad burns or data problems.

    Hi there!

I also have an Apex 1500 dvd player and I'm very pleased with it. It has played everything I haven't screwed up...lol I'm still learning this vcd/svcd thing, but it's still played them. I just have to master how to make the quality on my movies better before I burn them. I've made a ton of movies for my kids and they play awesome. When I bought my dvd player, I just went for the old cheapy model, thinking if it plays rented dvd's, I'll be happy enough with that. I didn't realize what a great little machine this really is though. Especially for the money I paid for it. They say "you get what you pay for" but in this case, that's not true. I bet the more expensive models couldn't keep up to this one. In fact, I'm getting one for my Dad for Christmas!

  7. Just got mine a couple of days ago from Amazon. I don't have any of the problems ppl have described with this unit. Maybe I was just lucky. I've played vcds and svcds without any problems. I use tdk and cheap generic cdrs. The only problem I have is when I play dvdrs it doesn't rewind and when I fast forward it only goest at 2x.
