camcorder to vcd?

hi i heard its possible to put vhs to dvd.is it possible to put camcorder to vcd/svcd?the camcorder is hi8 not digital.wots the best program if possible.thanks

Hello I have a hi 8 camcorder and I capture to avi using free vcr.Then I convert with thpgnc to mpeg from there I burn with nero for vcd's. This howerver uses the vfw drivers and windows 98. Give some more details on your os, capture card???

thanks for reply m8.i am using wins 98se and my graphics is a geforce2 64mb mx400 with composite and svhs socket.not sure if it can be done with this.i am told the svhs socket is in/out.seems you can use usb though for digital cameras
