  2. ok, I somehow had the same problem with my DV camera , so what I did was to first record on my DV (in digital mode) and capture through firewire later at the computer. The quality is quite enough for SVCD I think, you should take care of your original tape on VHS for best quality. If you are going to record a TV program and you have something like Sky or DirectTV you should record directly to your miniDV cam.

    Hope it helps!

  4. As far as I know, even if you get your hands on a vcr with firewire out, you wont be able to transfer your tape because your original is not in digital format. It is the same for my DV or your miniDVD, try capturing Hi8 or 8 tapes through firewire and you can't, you have to record again in digital mode. My advice is to first ask the capabilities of the vcr that has the firewire out and give it a try.

  6. Your camera doesn't have a video in. You can therefore only transfer the camcorder tapes to your computer. See its features:

I have never heard of a VCR with firewire out. That's unlikely to exist unless you have a digital VCR.

You will need a capture card. Some people suggests the Dazzle DVC II or the new Dazzle DCS 200 (both are mpeg hardware encoders). Others suggest Win-TV-PVR-250. I don't own any of these cards but it seems that they are good solutions.
