I really want to get a good one pass vbr using dvd2svcd. I have been toying with many methods all have been posted on this site. The main one lately is settings the min bitrate at the avg and setting the Q setting at something very high so as to get a good 1 pass vbr. Does anybody know what Q I should be using to get roughly the same distortion rate as in multipass vbr. assuming this is how this is done?

It looks like I will have to go back to multipass but i aint going out without a fight.

    N e help apprecitated.

  2. At a wild guess at least a Q of 3 (1600/2520) but why are you going this route? To save time and get high quality try multipass @ 1 and then
when finished, keep cce open and check on Advanced to adjust the
Q levels by hand (about 10-15 minutes for an 90min movie) and the
end result is better (9 times out of 10) than multipass at 4.

  4. Your guide (for dvd ripping) is well written and nicely presented. I can't and won't even attempt to find fault with it. What I do say is this. There is no single method or settings that will provide the best result for each situation.

I transcode one DVD rip in one way and another with
completely different settings. I use X-Pass,CQ,VBRCQ,manual Q with
different settings depending on the length, the amount of scene changes I expect, level of action, detail level, etc. I even (gasp) use Tmpegenc on occasion. I'm not a super expert, but there is a certain
logic which suggests a particular approach for certain situations.

This approach, obviously, is not for everyone. For those that need
help, your guide as well as satstorm's cover things nicely.
