Was capturing at 352x576 in windows ME but upgraded to XP to get round the 4 gig file limit (was having alot of problems with multisegment capture).
Anyway, can't get 352x576 to work at the minute using VDUb so would 352x288 be much of a loss when capturing ?

Capturing at a vertical resolution of 288 means that half of the TV picture is actually being thrown away.
If you are reencoding your video to VCD then the quality loss won't notice *as* much because 288 is the native PAL VCD vertical resolution. If you are making SVCD or DVD then forget it.
I would continue to investigate your vertical resolution problem as the video quality will suffer, even for VCD. -
I'm capturing Video tapes to avi and then converting to VCD.
I'm working on finding a solution to the problem but if there is no solution then would the difference between 288 vertical and 576 vertical be that noticeable ?

Yes I think it will be noticable.
Capturing at a vertical resolution of 288 means that you are only capturing one of the two vertical fields. Capturing at 576 would capture both of them. Even if your vertical destination resolution is 288 (as for VCD) you will still get better quality capturing at 576 and then deinterlacing and resizing down to 288.
