i have just gotten into using vcd and my dvd player(phillips dvd825) supports vcd, I purchased stephen kings the shinning on vcd, and when i play it on my player it is in black and white, on my pc through windvd2000 playback is color,
the philips dvd player does not have a very good setup screen and i have not found any help on adjusting the video input.
thanks

It sounds like your using an ntsc tv (America, Japan and others) and are trying to play a pal vcd. When you do this you lose color. I'm not familiar with your dvd player but if it has a pal or multi mode then enable it and it should play fine. If it doesnt then you will need to convert the vcd to ntsc and re-burn. To do this copy the dat file to your hard drive, its in the mpegav folder on the disk. convert the dat to mpg with vcdgear (www.vcdgear.org) and load it in TMPGenc with the ntsc vcd template loaded and encode.
Also though this probably isnt the problem, try unplugging all other inputs from your tv except your dvd player. Sometimes this can cause loss of color. -
Of course, the inverse applies too. If you try to play an NTSC on a PAL TV you'll also get monochrome playback. Ah, the joys of international trade and varying standards......
