What is the advantage of the Apex 2100 over the 1600 besides the slimmer design? The price is roughly about 10-15 extra, is there any real benefit?

The main difference is that the 2100 has component video output (three jacks labeled Y,Cb, and Cr), whereas the 1600 does not. If your TV has component inputs, this is definitely worth the extra ducats as it will give a picture superior even to S-Video (if you have the component video inputs, that is).
If your TV does not have component inputs (many do not, it is sort of a higher-end feature)and you don't plan to buy one that does, which is worth considering, as it truly shows DVD video in all of its true glory of rich, full color, then component outputs will do you no good at all. In such a case, you might as well buy the 1600 and spend the 15 bucks on a small bottle of Jameson's (or Bushmills, if you prefer), so you can pop in a DVD and sip a nice, soul-warming whiskey while you watch your new player! As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
Thanks for the great information and help. My TV that I will be setting this up to does not have those extra features. I'm replacing a Toshiba 1700 dvd player because it does not play hardly anything but DVD's, although it has those "extra" features. I will stick with the apex 1600 and find something to spend the 15 dollars on, thanks!
