play vcd on dvd player

i hope some1 is able to help me out here.

When i burn amovie or video clips onto a cd so it is a VCD format , it plays as a VCD in my Dvd player on my PC, but nothing plays on my standalone DVD player which can playback CD-R's and VCD's
I was just wondering y this is happening, and do i need to use a certain program to burn the clips as a VCD (i use Nero)or do i have to use a certain brand name of CD-R's for it to work

Does your DVD player have a brand name and model number, or is it missing those two details?

I am tryin' to find out for a few of my friends and i don't know what dvd players or model no. they have, i just wanted to know just for most of the standalone DVD players that are able to play VCD, so r u able to help me out, cause it doesn't work with Nero, so do i need to use a certain software or brand CD's
