I currently do not have a DVD-ROM in my PC but I'd like to backup a few of my DVD titles and purchase one. I've heard the correct way to do it is to copy the files from the DVD to the hard drive then use the programs to convert. My question is, does it matter what brand or model of DVD-ROM I get for my PC? Since I'm copying them to my hard drive, is any one better than the other? Thanks.

I was looking at a Pioneer SCSI 10X DVD Player for $90 that I thought might be nice...

    dude.

i was also looking at getting a scsi pioneer 10x drive.

let me fill you in on my findings about that. models 304 and 305 boast IDENTICAL specs, accept that the 305 is supposedly 5ms faster random access time on cd-rom discs.

the thing that pioneer won't tell you though, the thing that i found out at http://www.7thzone.com, is that the 304 was manufactured prior to jan 2000, and thus it can be made region free. the 305 can only have its region changed 5 times.

http://www.pricewatch.com is where you found your price i assume. be sure, that if you get that drive, to get the 304 pack. you can get it for 90 retail boxed w/ the software...something you can't get at 90 with the 305.

anyways, i was really wanting to get that one, but then last week circuit city had a delta 12x ide dvd-rom drive for twenty bucks after mail-in rebate. it wasn't worth the extra 80 to me to stay with a scsi drive, and this 20 bucks sure was well spent

this dvd-rom drive i got rips @ 5x... i have heard that the pioneer 10x scsi will rip at 8-9x however.

    anyways, fyi
    THIS IS HARDCORE
