A month ago I was a total newbie to anything concerning the copying of DVD’s (and probably still am). Perhaps I am too dense but, I found all of the existing guides on how to copy just the movie from a DVD to 1 or 2 DVD+RW’s confusing and contradicting. But after weeks of trial and error, I was finally able to successfully copy a DVD to DVD+RW (or 2 DVD+RW’s) with no loss in quality, AC3 6 channel sound, working chapters, and best of all, using freeware!!! The only software you need is DVD Decrypter and ifoedit. Most of you will probably read the following and say “DUH!!, it took this guy this long to figure this out??” but if I only help one person, it will be worth it.
1.Open DVD Decrypter and rip the movie to your hard drive. Select any of the streams you want and also select “direct stream copy”. Also, under tools/settings/ifo mode select “copy ifo file”.
2.Open ifoedit and load the new .ifo file you just created from the ripping process. Click on “VOB extras” and select the following:
Strip Streams
Correct VOB-Unit (navigation Pack) pointers in VOB-files
Correct IFO tables with new VOB-Unit information
Create new VIDEO_TS.IFO & VTS_01_0.IFO
Remove P-Uops
Remove Macrovision
Adjust VOB-Unit pointers
Adjust Audio/Subp Point
3.Select your destination directory. I usually create a VIDEO_TS directory for this. Click “OK”.
4.ifoedit will now ask which streams you want to strip. Select only the streams that you ripped in step 1. For example, I only select the English AC3, 6 channel stream when ripping so that’s the only stream I select in the “strip stream” menu in ifoedit. Select the streams you want and hit “strip it”.
5.Ifoedit will now do its thing and move all necessary ifo’s and vob’s to your VIDEO_TS directory (or whatever directory you selected in step 3)
6.When ifoedit is finished, close the program and then re-open. Open the newly created VTS_01_0X.ifo file and click “Get VTS Sectors”. Hit “OK” on whatever pops up and then save. Close ifoedit, re-open, and do the same for the VIDEO_TS.ifo file.
7.Close ifoedit again, re-open and select the VTS_01_0X.ifo file and hit “DVD Play”. If you can play the movie here, you should be able to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to a DVD and play on your standalone DVD player no problem.
I have done this with about 5 movies and they all work fine. I also found that if copying a movie that is bigger than 4.3 gigs, you can select and rip half of the chapters in step 1, run the process, and then do the same for the second half of the chapters, putting each set on an individual DVD.
Let me know if this works!

Oh yeah it works. Faster process too. You can even split your already stream stripped final VOB files again without re-creating VTS files. I did that to my X-file season 5 DVD. That DVD is over 7G in size and around 200 minutes long. So I just stream strip and create my choice of VTS with subtitle but the file still 5.5G. This case I can transcode to reduce the size but hell that process will keep me awake all night so I just split the VTS file again to double sided 9.4G DVD-R and burn with instant VOB ver. 6.4 and it works just fine with menu selection just like an original DVD.
