in the last few days i have seen some hysterical rambelings that apex is no longer supporting VCD playback but they will continue to support SVCD playback.
is it even possible to have SVCD support withour VCD support? i cant find a sinle player in the dvd player list on this site that has those characteristics.
i have even seen someone claiming they got an apex 5131 that didn't play VCD and they had to bring it back to the store and exchange theirs with a serial number start 5131-2 for one with a serial number 5131-1.
is this a load of crap?
i would appreciate any informative links anybody could offer.

I don't think its possible to have SVCD support without VCD support. Anyway though, i think the Apex no longer advertises that there players support VCD, but they still do. As many people say that there new players play VCD fine.

a few people have also reported that their new apex player will not play vcd but plays svcd fine.. so i think it is possible

Given SVCD uses the same codex as DVD there is no reason it's not possible, the VCD support may have been dropped to simplify the player or licencing reasons
