  1. I am getting ready to purchase a new video capture card (to replace my DC10plus) and I'm trying to decide between the following:

    1. Osprey-200
    2. Canopus ADVC-100/50

If I purchase the Osprey, I'll capture with AVI_IO/HuffYUV.
My intention is to make the highest quality SVCDs possible... I'm currently getting OK results with my DC10plus, but I want better. I already own a BT878 based WinTV card, but it's a piece of junk... interference everywhere in the frame, even if I use the composite input direct from my VCR. After much reading, I've learned that the 878A cards differ widely in susceptibility to interference, so naturally I'm trying to get some info on which offers the highest quality from a SVideo or composite source.

Please help me with some info.

    Hi,
You might find your vcr is providing the interference. VHS is very noisy and this is most notable at high resolutions.

You have to decide what you wish to use your card for. DV is ideal if your system is not very powerful and you have limited storage space. 1hr footage will fit into about 15GB anologue capture will be larger i.e 25GB

Where as your osprey has hardware built in to assit capture. Personally I would go with the DV bridge as it less hassle and cheaper.

But remember your captures will only be as good as your source material. Super VHS being better for Super VCD than VCD.
